1/7/2023 0 Comments Quixel vs 3d coatDesigner is industry standard for making procedural textures and having engine control. No matter how much we dislike Adobe, many of us old school Substance users came to substance to get away from Adobe, but it is what it is. Painter can be replaced by Mixer and other tools sure. nothing else can.Substance Designer is the true magic of Substance. For the substance segment, there is Marmoset Toolbag, Armor Paint (with nodes and layers), 3D Coat (same thing, also with parametric modeling), Blender (better with addons), Quixel Mixel (Made free by Epic).etc Hahaha okay dude, believe whatever makes you sleep better at night.Īs far as Designer goes, nothing is competing to Designers power, NOT even close.Designer can be used procedural in the game engine. Other alternatives are strongly competing with Adobe, some doing a great job at it, others less so, but growing none the less. Not really a threat to Adobe, as much as I'd like to. Affinity doesn't have an equivalent of Substance Painter or Substance Designer and affinity software might at best make life easier for a couple of freelancers. Designer and Publisher are arguably way better than Adobe's current offering. the only folders i created are the one for the quixel stuff on my d drive (to download stuff from quixel) and the quixel folder i made in 3dcoat for the smart materials. There are plenty of professionals, even entire shops which have switched over to the Affinity suite. Affinity Photo, Designer and Publisher have all put a dent in Adobe's usual profit share. Serif has been developing 3D painting features for Affinity for awhile now, its just not open to the public at this point in time. I hate buying software only to find that I need 150 add-ons to achieve what it is I want to do. Hmmmmm? I wish i knew more about these products, what the bare boned versions do and what add-ons are kind of essential. I could also buy most of the addons for the Affinity products for the same cost I would spend on Substance Designer.
